Yesterday, I unexpectedly crossed paths with the Duncannon Borough Parks & Recreation Director (whose name escapes me at the moment & surprisingly isn't found on the Duncannon Borough website), at a Duncannon park of all places.
We said our friendly hellos and before I knew it, he was excitedly asking if we'd be attending today's car show & craft fair. I do my best to keep up-to-date on happenings around town but the information and communication seems to be disjointed, scattered, and infrequent, to say the least.
There was a flyer tacked to the pavilion (below) at the park but outside of that, I hadn't seen or heard a thing. There isn't so much as a mention about it to be found on the Borough's website, or calendar.
Today's event is the official 'First Annual' with plans to grow the event as they move forward. After so many years of inactivity, this is a HUGE step forward! In the works are a series of outdoor movies - potentially at Noye Park, an evening Halloween parade (it's coming back!!!), and a community picnic!
It's frustrating that I only know what I know because of a chance meeting...and I can't help but wonder what else we don't know. With so many mediums available, and the fact that so much of our lives are spent, and shared, online, creating This Is Duncannon seemed a logical step in the right direction.
Because we can do better.
And together, I think we're heading that direction.
